Sam Paton, former director of Sam Paton & Associates, began his private consultancy in 1983 as one of the only dedicated agribusiness valuations and agricultural economics consultancies in Australia.

Due to the specialised nature of agribusinesses, the valuation of primary production assets can be a complex task as there is often little or no transaction evidence to rely upon. Such specialised businesses could include aquaculture, glacéd fruit production or hydroponic lettuce production.

Following extensive dialogue with the major banks in the early nineties, Sam Paton pioneered the use of income based capitalisation of earnings approaches.
